The Crucial Conversations Video Series – Part 3
Learn to Ask Powerful Questions

This series is an overview of the excellent tools and strategies in the best-selling book, Crucial Conversations.  We highly recommend that you purchase a copy.  It will help you communicate more openly and honestly in all areas of your life.

Part 3 focuses on three powerful questions to ask yourself when beginning each session of the mediation process.  You can use these questions whenever you are involved in a crucial conversation.

  • What is your purpose for this mediation?
  • What do you hope to accomplish?
  • What would be an ideal outcome?

To create the best, most sustainable outcomes you must show mutual purpose and mutual respect.  That is to say, to show you care about the other person’s interests and their well-being.   That doesn’t mean you subordinate your interests to theirs.  It means that you understand there are two parties involved who often have two different points of view.

If the conversation is getting tough or turning negative then take a productive pause:

  • What does your behavior say about your motives?
  • Ask yourself: What do I want for myself?  What do I want for others?  What do I want for this partnership?
  • Finally, ask yourself: How would I behave if this were really what I wanted?

We will help you.
